Is Ignatius Batman?

While talking to Dorian, Ignatius rattles of a list of reading suggestions starting with the Romans and he ends with the comic book, Batman. He says that he respects Batman because Batman "tends to transcend the abysmal society." I think that Ignatius sees himself as the Batman of New Orleans. He refuses to relate with society, and I think it would be wise to remember that society did not always embrace Batman. Therefore I think that although Ignatius's actions may be perceived as selfish and ridiculous, maybe his actions are for a greater purpose in the end. What do you think?

  1. I think it's an excellent question. Remind me of your post during our final discussion of the book. We should compare each character's final status to their initial situation and evaluate Ignatius's role in these changes.
